PKILLING

Important note:  Player killing (PK) is not universally popular.  The Immortals
feel that the risk of death from another player is a valid hazard and should
not be precluded.  If you *DO* elect to PK, conduct yourself in a manner
strictly consistent with the Role Play (RP) constraints of your clan.  As a
player, if you find yourself killed often, perhaps you are doing something
wrong; consider grouping, or hiring protection, etc.

A word on Corpse Looting:  Looting has been the source of much controversy.  It
is your right, within the boundaries of you clan's policy, to loot your kills.
A full-loot however is malicious, counter productive, and will likely result in
Immortal inquiry and possible action taken against the looter.  Restring
equipment and quest objects _MUST_ be returned, no exceptions or excuses.
Allowable ransom per "special" item is the victim's level/10 (rounded) in
diamonds.  Permanent damage inflicted on these special items before returning
them is _NOT_ allowed, they must be returned no worse off than you got them.

Multi-killing:  A PK'd player who returns to his corpse before negotiating
terms for the recovery of his equipment may be killed again, though in general
this is frowned upon.  This is either a) Daring, or b) Stupidity.  Losses
incurred as the result of either are not grounds for a complaint.  A simple,
"May I recover my equipment?" will go a long way towards eliminating problems.
Avoid killing the same person repeatedly when possible, and except for the
above exception, do _NOT_ multi-kill (kill the same person more than once in a
short period of time).

A word to PKers:  You are permitted to kill for the enjoyment of the Immortals,
to cull the weaklings, and to generally make the world more challenging.  There
is a strong inclination for avid PKers to become preoccupied with the technical
aspects of killing.  Do _NOT_ do this to the exclusion of Role Play.  This is
first and foremost a RP mud.  To forget this is to invite Divine Wrath.

The rest of this text covers the technical aspects of PK for those who care
(see warning above):

PK range between two characters is calculated by the lower of:
    ( lower character's level / 10 ) + 2    OR    8
Characters in PK range are denoted by a "*" beside their level on the who list.

PK is restricted to clan members and Loners.  Non-clan members cannot PK, nor
can they be the target of PK.  Nobody is allowed to PK within Midgaard.

PK and player stealing are allowed to all clan members except for GARDUN and
PROTECTOR, provided the victim is is within PK range of the character and is
also in a clan.

GARDUN may ONLY kill "killer" and "thief" characters, but may do so without
regard to level restrictions.

PROTECTOR may _NOT_ attack players, at all.  ATTACKS on a PROTECTOR result in a
mild stroke which will lower the attacker's dexterity.  In some cases, the loss
of dexterity can be extreme - you have been warned.

The "Killer" (KLR) Flag:
* Those attempting to PK are assigned a (KLR) flag.
* Players with a (KLR) and/or (THF) flag may be attacked (as noted)
without penalty, and are also subject to action from guards.
* Death at the hands of another player from another clan is the only means of
losing a (KLR) or (THF) flag.

PK within the walls of Midgaard is strictly prohibited unless both players
have given their consent to have this restriction lifted. If you decide you
want to fight within Midgaard city limits, note the immortals to have your
name added to the index board for public reference. Once this sanctuary is
voluntarily removed, it cannot be changed. For these purposes, this rule also
applies to stealing as well.
