In the realms, gems are gathered for many different reasons. The most
obvious is their value and beauty. Another powerful reason is that they are
able to enhance weapons and armor with magical abilities. All gems are mined
from the earth except for pearls, which are cultivated from the seas. Many
cities in the realms have prospered and even depend on the trade of gems.

Certain metals are used in the creation of equipment:
Ore the source of all the metals and most gems
Steel the basic element of all equipment
Adamantite used to make weapons lighter and armor stronger
Mithril used to add hitroll and damroll to equipment
diamonds are the life blood of the clans. They use these to
pay for most purchases, and to decorate their front teeth.
They are also used to pay for most equipment creations.
